About Us

Slaight Music was started by Gary Slaight and Derrick Ross in 2011 with a mandate to support the Canadian music community through a variety of initiatives, and to develop Canadian talent via strategic partnerships with industry peers. We work with artists from across the country and across the musical spectrum, helping to further careers and get great music heard. We're also invested in the technology sphere, helping Canadian music entrpreneurs develop the next generation of digital platforms and services. And we support a variety of music-related events, causes and charities.

Gary Slaight

A staunch supporter of Canadian talent, Gary Slaight was pivotal in creating the National Songwriting Contest and the Canadian Music Awards.  Gary’s positive commitment to the industry led to his being named Broadcast Executive of the Year on four separate occasions, and in 2005 he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Other notable acknowledgements include the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Outstanding Community Service Award in 2004, the Gold Ribbon Award for Broadcast Excellence from the Canadian Association of Broadcasters in 2007, the Humanitarian Spirit Award at the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards and the prestigious Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award at the Juno Awards in 2012.

Gary continues to be a driving force in Canada’s music industry and is actively involved in artist development through Slaight Music that was established with a mandate to invest, nurture and develop Canadian artists.
